Movie & Series Releases in Spring 2024
French or international series, action, comedy, drama, science fiction, here is a quick overview of what spring 2024 has in store for you on the small and big screen.
SERIES
Anthracite – Released 10/04 – Netflix
Synopsis: In 1994, the mass suicide of a sect established in a small village in the Alps hits the headlines... 30 years later, the murder of a woman murdered according to the rituals of the strange community sets fire and blood to the precarious balance found by the inhabitants. Ideal scapegoat, Jaro Gatsi, a young delinquent who came to the mountains to get his life back on track, quickly finds himself accused of the murder. Determined to prove his innocence, he receives unexpected help from Ida, an eccentric and ultra-connected geek, in search of her missing father. They will quickly understand that their involvement in this affair is not by chance. And that the answers they seek are rooted in the secrets of their own past...
Created by Fanny Robert (Profiling) and Maxime Berthemy, it consists of six episodes of around fifty minutes.
Baptized Anthracite, this thriller is loosely based on a news story that occurred in the 1990s in the heart of the French Alps. At the time, it made a big impression because it involved a mass suicide of 25 people, all members of a sect called the Order of the Solar Temple. This community was formed in the mid-1980s by Luc Jouret and Joseph Di Mambro.
The series Anthracite on Netflix features a top-flight cast. We can notably find small screen regulars, such as Camille Lou Or Kad Merad. But also a music star to know Hatik, in one of the main roles.
Fallout – Released on 12/04 – Prime Video
Synopsis: 200 years after the apocalypse, the inhabitants of luxurious fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated apocalyptic landscape their ancestors left behind. They are then shocked to discover the incredibly complex, joyfully strange and extremely violent world that awaits them.
After the successful adaptation of The Last of Us, it is another license of "gaming" major that is brought to the small screen. With on board, none other than the creators of Westworld. Of which Jonathan Nolan, brother of Christopher with whom he co-wrote Memento and the scripts of the Batman trilogy. To adapt the much-loved franchise, the team was accompanied by Todd Howard, the games production manager.
Pre-production began in the summer of 2020, while the world was still in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. Filming was therefore postponed for a long time, with the first shots finally set for spring 2022. It wrapped in March 2023.
Season 1 of the series Fallout will consist of eight episodes. The pilot was directed by Jonathan Nolan, who produces the show alongside Lisa Joy.
Fiasco – Released 04/30 – Netflix
Synopsis: Raphaël Valande is shooting his first feature film to pay tribute to the heroic life of his resistance grandmother. Everything starts to go wrong on the set and the shoot turns into a nightmare when a member of the crew tries to sabotage the film.
If you loved them together in Five, you will love finding them in Fiasco !
Francois Civil And Pierre Niney will be playing partners again. Alongside Geraldine Nakache, Louise Coldefy, Pascal Demolon, Djimo, Juliette Gasquet and the singer Leslie Medina. A well-organized association of personalities with very high comic potential. All orchestrated by Igor Gotesman, thanks to whom we had already laughed a lot in Family Business And Five. And in addition to monitoring the project behind the camera, the latter will also take on a role on screen.
Fiasco is a French comedy television series of 7 episodes of 35 minutes.
Bridgerton Season 3 Part 1 – Released 05/16 – Netflix
Synopsis: Peneloppe has finally given up on her long-time love for Colin Bridgerton. But she has decided that it is time to take a husband. Preferably one who will give her enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, away from her mother and sisters.
It should be noted that the showrunner of the first two seasons, Chris Van Dusen, is leaving his place to Jess Brownell.
Good news for fans of the heroes from the previous season. The couple formed by Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma will also be back, still played by Jonathan Bailey And Simone Ashley.
The first two seasons of Bridgerton had 8 episodes, so the third season will normally have 8 as well.
We won't have to wait too long to see part 2. In fact, it will be available on Netflix on June 16.
Becoming Karl Lagarfeld – Released 7/06 – Disney +
Synopsis: In 1972, Karl Lagerfeld, 38, is a fashion designer unknown to the general public. His meeting with Jacques de Bascher, an ambitious young dandy, will change everything. It is one of the most anticipated series of 2024. After " Cristobal Balenciaga » And "The New Look", it's the series' turn "Becoming Karl Lagerfeld" to make people talk about her.
Adapted from the book by Raphaëlle Bacqué, "Kaiser Karl" (Albin Michel), the program catapults us to 1972. The German stylist with the ponytail is only 38 years old and still unknown to the general public.
Through six episodes, viewers will (re)discover the man who managed to rise to the rank of fashion icon. His rise, his meeting with Jacques de Bascher – with whom he fell in love, his rivalry with his contemporary Yves Saint Laurent…
All these key moments will be brought to the screen to paint the portrait of a complex man with formidable ambition.
In the casting?
Daniel Brühl ("Inglourious Basterds") in the shoes of Karl Lagerfeld and Theodore Pellerin in that of Jacques de Bascher. Arnaud Valois ("120 beats per minute") embodies Yves Saint Laurent, Alex Lutz ("Guy") is Pierre Bergé, as for Agnes Jaoui ("The Taste of Others"), the actress plays the role of Gabrielle Aghion, founder of the Chloé house.

Godzilla x Kong – The New Empire – Released on 02/04
Synopsis: First enemies and then allies, Kong and Godzilla will have to fight side by side again. This time against a new enemy who has taken power in the world of the titans and who threatens its natural balance.
This is the fifth installment in the fictional universe. MonsterVerse from Legendary Pictures, after Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs Kong (2021).
Distributed by Warner Bros., this fifth film in the MonsterVerse is directed by Adam Wingard, who also directed the previous film.
On the casting side, we find Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, Dan Stevens and Kaylee Hottle, all seen in Godzilla vs. Kong. But also Alex Ferns (The Batman) And Fala Chen (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).
The Fall Guy – Released 01/05
Synopsis: Colt Seavers is a stuntman and action choreographer from another era. Overwhelmed and depressed by his failing life, he is hired to double the famous actor Tom Ryder, whom he had doubled in the distant past. The film is directed by Jody Moreno, Colt's former girlfriend. When the star mysteriously disappears and the project is threatened, he volunteers to investigate the disappearance and find the missing actor. And thus save Jody's first feature film. Colt will be able to count on the help of his best friend and stunt coordinator.
This is an adaptation of the TV series The Man Who Falls Right (The Fall Guy) created by Glen A. Larson and broadcast between 1981 and 1986.
Right in the middle of Sydney, Australia, The Fall Guy recreates the atmosphere of the studios of the capital of cinema. After the failure of their relationship, stuntman Colt Seavers (Ryan Gosling) and director Jody Moreno (Emily Blunt) find themselves on the set of Jody's first film. Aaron Taylor-Johnson embodies Tom Ryder, a renowned actor dubbed by Colt. A strong comeback of the duo he spins with David Leitch, who had already collaborated with Bullet Train. Other distinguished stars bring up the rear of this well-tailored cast: Winston Duke preview in the saga Black Panther, the three-time Emmy nominee Hannah Waddingham And Stephanie Hsu, which we loved in “ Everything, Everywhere All At Once" .

Furiosa – A Mad Max Saga – Released 05/22
Synopsis: As the world falls apart, young Furiosa falls into the hands of a horde of bikers led by the warlord Dementus. As they traverse the Wasteland, they stumble upon the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants battle for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials to find a way home.
This is the fifth installment in the series " Mad Max"It is both a prequel and a spin-off to the film. Mad Max: Fury Road, centered on the character Furiosa. The actress Anya Taylor-Joy succeeds Charlize Theron in the title role.
Inside Out 2 – Released 06/18
Synopsis: Fresh out of college, Riley is now a teenager. Which doesn't come without triggering a major upheaval within the headquarters, which must deal with something unexpected: the arrival of new emotions!
