The most anticipated films in 2023
The year 2023 will be rich in blockbusters and films of all genres on screen.
Here are 15 must-see films to discover this new year (non-exhaustive list of course).
Babylon – (Released 18/01)

Synopsis: Los Angeles, in the 1920s.
A tale of boundless ambition and wild excess, the rise and fall of various characters during the creation of Hollywood. An era of boundless decadence and depravity.
It features no less than Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie and Tobey Maguire in the cast. Damien Chazelle is the director, who is responsible for the Oscar-winning La La Land.
The explosive trailer shows that all dreams have a price in this period of Hollywood decadence.
The Fabelmans – (Released on 01/25 in France – Already released in America)

Synopsis: Young Sammy Fabelman falls in love with cinema after his parents take him to see The Greatest Show on EarthArmed with a camera, Sammy begins to make his own home movies. Much to the delight of his supportive mother.
Directed by Steven Spielberg, this work is partly an autobiography.
Starring Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen and Gabriel Labelle as the protagonist.
Marvel Mania:
- Ant-Man & The Wasp – (Released 02/15)

Synopsis: Superheroes and partners Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne – aka Ant-Man and the Wasp – are about to experience new adventures. Along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne – Hope's parents – the duo will explore the subatomic dimension, interact with strange new creatures. And embark on an odyssey that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible.
With Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas in the cast
- Guardians of the Galaxy – (Released 03/05))

Synopsis: Our favorite gang of misfits has changed a bit. Peter Quill, still mourning the loss of Gamora, must rally his team to defend the universe and protect one of his own. If they fail, this mission could very well be the end of the Guardians as we know them.
Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana are back in the lead roles.
- The Marvels – (Released 07/26)

Synopsis: After Ant-Man In February it will be the turn of Captain Marvel to make her big comeback to the cinema in July 2023. But this time, Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) will not be alone and will be surrounded by Maria Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Kamala Khan aka Miss Marvel (Iman Vellani). In The Marvels, the three heroines will unite against a mysterious antagonist.
For now, Marvel Studios has not yet revealed any image of The Marvels.
The Little Mermaid – (Released 05/24)

Synopsis: Under the sea, Ariel, a young mermaid and daughter of King Triton, dreams of becoming a human. One evening after an argument with her father, she runs away from the palace. It is then that a huge storm breaks out at sea. And it is there that she saves from drowning: the young and handsome Prince Eric, with whom she falls madly in love. In order to be able to find the person she loves, the ocean witch, Ursula, offers to give her her voice in exchange for human legs.
As you will have understood, this is a live-action remake of the “Disney Studios animated classic. The Little Mermaid released in 1989, itself inspired by the tale of the same name by Hans Christian Andersen, published in 1836.
Starring Halle Bailey in the eponymous role, Javier Bardem as King Triton and Melissa McCarthy as the evil Ursula.
When director Rob Marshall announces that the actress Halle Bailey will play the main character of Ariel, this announcement causes a lively controversy on social networks. By the fact that a black actress plays the role of the mermaid. While the 1989 cartoon represents her with a white color.
Finally, director Rob Marshall defends his choice in a press release."After intensive research, it became abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of energy, heart, youth, innocence and depth. Not to mention an extraordinary voice – which are the qualities needed to play this iconic role.”.
Spiderman: Alone Against All – (Released on 05/31)

Synopsis: Miles Morales returns for an epic adventure that will take our Brooklyn-born hero across the Multiverse to join forces with Gwen Stacy and a new team of superheroes. Together, they will face the most powerful villain they have ever faced.
We've been waiting for it since 2018. The first images of Spider-Man: Alone Against All (the original title of the film is Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse) have been unveiled. And they herald a visual and emotional spectacle on par with its predecessor.
The peculiarity of the continuation of the adventures of Miles Morales is that they are divided into two parts. After Spider-Man: Alone Against All, we will have to wait until 2024 to find out Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Killers of the flower moon – (Released 05/2023)

Synopsis: In the 1920s, several members of the Osage Native American tribe in Osage County, Oklahoma are murdered after finding oil on their land. The FBI investigates.
Martin Scorsese's new film, he reuses his favorite actors like Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert de Niro. Indeed it is the 6th collaboration of Di Caprio and Scorsese and the 10th with De Niro!
Indiana Jones 5 – (Released 06/28)

Synopsis: In 1969, American archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is opposed to the space race. Due to the fact that the United States has recruited former Nazis to beat the Soviet Union in this competition. His goddaughter Helena accompanies him in this fight. Meanwhile, Jürgen Voller, a NASA employee and ex-Nazi involved in the lunar program, seeks to make the world a better place according to his own ideas.
This is the fifth and final installment of the film saga. Indiana Jones featuring Harrison Ford.
Oppenheimer – (Released 7/19)

Synopsis: Biopic about Julius Robert Oppenheimer, a brilliant researcher with a passion for culture and humanism. Known for having led the development of the atomic bomb in the United States during World War II.
Nolan reunites with Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, telling the story of his role in the creation of the atomic bomb.
Oppenheimer has one of the most impressive casts in recent years, with Murphy surrounded by the likes of Florence Poug, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Gary Oldman, Matt Damon, Kenneth Branagh, Rami Malek.
Barbie – (Released 7/19)

Synopsis: Barbie, who lives in Barbie Land, is expelled from the country for being less than a perfect-looking doll. With nowhere else to go, she sets off for the human world and seeks true happiness.
Greta Gerwig, the acclaimed director of Lady bird (2017) and Little Women (2019) signed with the studio in 2019 to co-write Barbie with his partner Noah Baumbach. Then to stage it solo.
With Barbie, she promised to deliver a strong, feminist role that will surprise the audience. “With this franchise, the name itself, people immediately have a preconceived idea: 'Oh, Margot is going to play Barbie, I can see what that's going to be.' But our goal is something else: 'Whatever you imagine, we're going to give you something totally different. Something you didn't know you wanted.', according to his words.

Dune 2 – (Released 11/17)

Synopsis: Paul Atreides joins forces with Chani and the Fremen while plotting revenge against those who destroyed his family. He must choose between the love of his life and the fate of the galaxy. All while doing everything he can to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.
Based on the famous book Complex by Frank Herbert, The sequel will continue with Timothée Chalamet in the role of Paul Atréides. And of course Denis Villeneuve still directing.
Wonka – (Released 12/15)

Synopsis: This is the prequel to the novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, telling the story of Willy Wonka's youth.
Timothée Chalamet steps into the shoes of a young Willy Wonka.
Also starring Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson and Sally Hawkins.

Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom – (Released 01/02)

Synopsis: The Empress of China is imprisoned following a coup d'état fomented by Deng Tsin Quin, a felonious prince. Princess Fu Yi, the Empress's only daughter, goes to Gaul to seek the help of Asterix and Obelix. The two inseparable Gauls of course agree to help the princess save her mother and free her country. They set off on a great adventure to China. However, Caesar and his powerful army, always thirsty for conquest, have also headed for the Middle Kingdom.
Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom is a French film directed by Guillaume Canet.
This is the fifth live-action film in the series. Asterix and Obelix. With an adaptation of the characters created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.
It is also the first film based on an original story. As well as the first in this series in which Obelix is not played by Gérard Depardieu but by Gilles Lellouche. The budget for this film is 65 million euros. Which makes it one of the most expensive French films ever produced.
So with this catalog of films as diverse as each other, you no longer have any excuses to run to the cinema next year 🙂
