Kombucha or the new healthy drink to adopt

Today we are going to focus on the ultimate healthy drink, Kombucha. Personally, since I discovered it in the small restaurant where I worked as a waitress when I arrived in Montreal, I can no longer do without it.

As much as I don't drink soda often, I like sparkling drinks so I found the right balance.

Kombucha can be a good alternative to aperitifs this summer for those who are not fond of alcohol or sodas or overly sweet drinks.

But first of all, what is this drink that has been trendy for several years?

What is Kombucha?

First of all, contrary to popular belief, it is a fermented drink. And not a mushroom as we often hear.

No, it's not the latest kombucha craze. ("tea algae" in Russian) was born in northern China during the Tsin dynasty, which called it "the immortal elixir" in 220 BC.

Very developed in North America, we are only just beginning to find them on the shelves of specialist or organic stores in France.

It is mainly composed of yeast, bacteria, tea and sugar. It doesn't sound like a dream, but believe me, the taste is worth it.

Despite the sugar present in its basic ingredients, the wonderful thing is that we don't end up drinking much of it when consuming it.

For example, my favorite flavor is Kiwi-Pineapple from the Rise brand, which for its ml bottle only comes to 4 calories!!

Rise Kombucha – Kiwi and Pineapple

There is something for all tastes and all brands here in Quebec in any case (as I said, not yet so developed in France)

We obtain a naturally carbonated acidic drink. The longer the Kombucha ferments, the more vinegary it will taste.

Because yes, it is possible to do it yourself for the more experienced by respecting the fermentation stage.

Let’s move on to its virtues or why it is considered the health drink to absolutely taste.

Its benefits

Kombucha has therefore been used for 2,200 years for its therapeutic properties and virtues.

  • Improves digestion

This is largely due to the amount ofenzymes and of probiotics that it contains. The good bacteria present in kombucha are microorganisms who help to strengthening our intestinal flora. Its consumption thus improves our digestion and the functioning of our transit. The enzymes, for their part, play an amplifying role and multiply these benefits.

Finally, tea is known for its diuretic and antioxidant power. It allows the elimination of toxins and waste present in our body.

  • Stimulates the immune system

Thanks to the probiotics, glucaric acid and vitamin C present in Kombucha, our immune system undergoes a real boost. It is therefore more able to protect us against diseases and viruses that threaten us at any time. Particularly during seasonal changes.

  • Rich in antioxidants

The tea contained in Kombucha is known for its many health properties. In particular, it has a high antioxidant content. Additionally, Kombucha's lactofermentation process increases the number of antioxidants present in the drink tenfold.

  • Provides a dose of energy

It is the ideal drink if you have a slight drop in energy. As in the case, for example, of the famous 3 p.m. slump at the office. Thanks to its small dose of caffeine, but especially thanks to its many vitamins and to his iron content, it is an ally to give you a good dose of energy.

  • Benefits on weight

There low amount of sugar present in this fermented drink is also one of the reasons why it is recommended to help with weight loss. Kombucha is an ideal alternative to sugary drinks that do not provide any nutrients. and which, in turn, contribute to weight gain.

He would also play a role against cholesterol and one undisputed ally against diabetes .

  • Fights cell aging

A large portion of the antioxidants in kombucha are polyphenols. One of the advantages of these is their power against the formation of free radicals. It is important to protect yourself from them because they can be responsible for the appearance of oxidative stress which accelerates the aging of cells of the body. Thus, drinking kombucha can reduce the risks of certain diseases such as cancer or heart disease for example.

Where to find some?

Depending on where you are in the world, you can find kombucha:

  • In supermarkets or small grocery stores (in Quebec in any case)
  • Organic type stores Rachelle Bery in Quebec or Naturalia In France
  • In restaurants, you will sometimes find it in the list of soft drinks (in North America, perhaps not yet in France)

Don't wait any longer to taste it, try it and you'll love it 
