The one who thought she wasn't good enough
Welcome to “Almost No Filter”, the podcast where I share my almost-forty-something chronicles, between life reflections, daily struggles and small realizations. Here, we talk about everything that is part of our journey: the ups, the downs, the doubts, and even the moments when we feel like we've got it all wrong. The goal? To be as honest as possible with ourselves and with you, without filter or pretension. Because we're all a bit in the same boat, trying to understand what makes us move forward, or sometimes what makes us go round in circles. So, relax and let yourself be carried away. Let's go!
We all have that moment when we look in the mirror and wonder: “Am I really good enough for this?”. That little shiver of doubt that settles in, like a dark cloud that threatens to ruin a beautiful day. And it’s not just any doubt. No, it’s the one that tells you that you’ll never be good enough, experienced enough, or even “what you think you should be” enough to succeed.
We all know that little voice. It's there, in the background, ready to convince you that this dream you have, this project you want to launch, will never be within your reach. And that's when the question arises: why does this voice exist? Why this incessant need to compare ourselves to others, to judge ourselves harshly, to believe that we are not enough ?
Because deep down, what this voice ignores is that we never need to be “perfect” to move forward. And yet, we often fall into this trap: waiting to be ready, waiting to feel good enough, waiting for the perfect moment… And then, that moment never comes. Because the “perfect moment” doesn’t exist. If you wait to be “enough,” you risk spending your life waiting.
You know, when you look at the people around you, you realize that very few of them waited until they were perfect to start. They just took the first step, even with all their imperfections. And guess what? They learned along the way. In fact, many of them will tell you that their mistakes, their failures, were necessary steps to grow and improve. So why would you make yourself believe that you have to know everything before you start?
Maybe what's holding you back isn't even your lack of skills, but the fear of not being quite good in the eyes of others. But the truth is that Others don't judge as much as you think. Most people are too busy doubting their own legitimacy to judge you.
It's as if we all have a fantasy version of perfection in our heads, a sort of impossible checklist to achieve. And it's not by checking every box on this imaginary list that you will become more legitimate. No. What makes you legitimate is your courage to start. Your desire to create, to evolve, and to do. No matter the flaws and imperfections. Besides, that's what makes you human.
So the next time you feel too “small,” too “weak,” too “not enough” to do what you want, remember this: you are already good enough. You have everything you need to start. Not tomorrow, not when you feel perfect, but today. Because the only thing holding you back, really, is waiting to be perfect. And trust me, no one is perfect. Not even the successful ones.
And instead of looking for validation from outside, start giving yourself permission to believe in yourself. Because deep down, this is it: the only person who can decide if you're good enough is you.
What you have in your hands now, even with all your uncertainties and weaknesses, is already enough to move forward. So don't let this idea of perfection hold you back. Be You, and go for it, even if it means taking one step at a time. Because deep down, you are already more than “enough” to achieve anything you want. And no one can take that away from you.
